 GEMMOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION OF AUSTRALIA

"UNREAL GEMSTONES"

Monday 11.45am -12.45pm in the Discover Seminar Room - FREE

Can you afford not to attend? Bring your lunch to the Discover Seminar room in Hall 1.

Is your lack of up to date knowledge of coloured gemstone treatments costing your business its reputation and sales?
It is increasingly important for all those involved in retail jewellery to be fully aware of the range of latest treatments being applied to many coloured gemstones. ACCC guidelines state that a jeweller must declare any treatments applied to the coloured stones he sells. Learn what you need to be aware of and how you should be disclosing treatments and what the future is for coloured gemstone treatments at the Presentation and Discussion hosted by Terry Coldham BA(Geol) FGAA, Federal President, Gemmological Association of Australia .

Terry Coldham, GAA Federal President and owner of prominent gemstone wholesaler Sapphex/Affiliated, will be presenting an overview of the “Unreal” gemstones he has encountered in recent times including imitations, synthetics and treated gemstones. In particular he will relate the latest findings of current research into Beryllium Treated Blue Sapphires, the latest unreal gemstone to hit world markets. This new breed of beryllium treated sapphires is increasingly difficult to distinguish from the ‘traditional’ heat treated sapphires with which most many jewellers in Australia are familiar.

Do you know how to identify all the latest treatments and synthetics and do you know what you need to disclose to your customers? Come along to the GAA stand and have chance to see these beasts in person as you will also be available to examine samples of the “Unreal Gemstones”. The seminar will be linked with specimens being available for microscope examination at the GAA stand P60 where you can study such things as lead glass filled rubies, and beryllium treated blue sapphires.

This event is exclusive to visitors at the JAA International Jewellery Fair  - another great reason to visit the Fair. Valuers earn points too.
